Environment

Everyone at Belltown Power is working to tackle the climate crisis and nature emergency. We are proud that our operational projects generate enough green energy to power up to 100,000 homes every year, displacing 170,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide that would otherwise be emitted. If all of our >1GW of projects in development are built, we could supply almost 1 million homes and displace over 1.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

We have won awards for the quality, biodiversity, and good practice of our habitat enhancement schemes within the industry. This includes the UK’s first construction wildlife award from the Wildlife Trust, which recognised the high standard of environmental management and commitments we implemented when constructing our Frodsham Wind Farm in Cheshire, which is home to Cheshire’s only pair of successfully breeding marsh harriers.

We have won awards for the quality, biodiversity, and good practice of our habitat enhancement schemes within the industry.

What we do

We develop and implement bespoke Ecological Management Plans for all our projects in consultation with our ecology experts, local stakeholders, and other partners,. These plans support our commitment to protect and enhance the specific biodiversity and ecology across our sites and surrounding areas to ensure our projects deliver real biodiversity net gain in addition to carbon displacing impacts. Proposed initiatives include native woodland planting, grassland management, habitat enhancement for local species, and the protection and enhancement of peatland and wet bogs.

To date our initiatives have delivered meaningful ecological success – for example we have recorded 23 different red and amber listed bird species on our solar sites, this includes the black redstart at Verwood, Dorset, which number fewer than 500 overwintering in the UK.

Case studies

To  understand more about the environmental and habitat enhancement measures we have committed to in the past, see the case studies below, which highlgiht some of the measures we have implemented for past projects:
